Bay Area Climate Protection Summit

Building on its successful 2005 50th Anniversary Symposium on Climate Protection, O’Rorke coordinated all aspects of the November 2006 Bay Area Climate Protection Summit, an event that focused attention on climate change and highlighted corporate best practices and the need to adopt them. Featuring a keynote address by Vice President Al Gore and presentations by Sun Microsystems (Sun), the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), the invitation-only event drew over 700 business, community and government leaders.

O’Rorke secured all speakers—including Al Gore in the height of “An Inconvenient Truth” exposure—created the guest list and secured several hundred thousand dollars in sponsorship packages from companies and agencies including Sun, PG&E, Lawrence Livermore National Labs and Swinerton Builders.

Media coverage for the Climate event was extensive, garnering more than 4.3 million media impressions in the Bay Area alone. Since the event, many participating elected officials have successfully championed climate protection policies in their respective jurisdictions.
